History of Ayurveda and Sidha

Ayurveda, meaning “the science of life” (Ayur = life, Veda = knowledge), is one of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems, originating in India over 5,000 years ago. Ayurveda traces its roots to the Vedic period, especially the Atharva Veda, which contains references to health, diseases, and herbal remedies. It was developed by ancient sages (Rishis) who observed nature, human body functions, and the balance of life energies.

Siddha medicine is one of the oldest traditional systems, developed in South India, particularly in Tamil Nadu. It is closely associated with Tamil culture and philosophy.Siddha system is believed to have been created by 18 Siddhars, enlightened sages with deep spiritual and medical knowledge.Among them, Agastya (Agathiyar) is considered the father of Siddha medicine.

Both Ayurveda and Siddha are ancient Indian healing systems rooted in nature and holistic wellness. While Ayurveda gained wider global recognition, Siddha remains a deeply preserved tradition of South India. Together, they reflect India’s rich heritage of natural medicine, spirituality, and scientific wisdom, continuing to influence modern wellness practices.
